    Graphene Market Landscape 2025

The word on the invoice was graphene. It described four different materials.

A brief that reframes graphene as a specification and manufacturing-consistency problem rather than a product story.

    What this is

A short evidence-first brief for buyers and investors. Graphene is a supply chain and specification problem first, and a product story second.

The word is used loosely. A given product may be graphene flakes, graphene oxide, reduced GO, or CVD film — each with different cost, performance and manufacturability. Name the form before evaluating any claim made about it.

    The diligence axes

    • Spec clarity: layer count, lateral size distribution, purity, defect density, dispersion behavior.
    • QC discipline: what actually gets measured, and how often, at production scale rather than lab scale.
    • Unit economics: cost per kilogram or per square metre at a consistent spec and at volume — not a lab-batch price with a volume discount attached to it verbally.

    Why ventures break

    • Commoditization when the differentiation is not clear.
    • Batch-to-batch spec drift, which destroys customer trust faster than a failed spec ever does.
    • Long procurement cycles.
    • Expensive validation.

    Healthcare and regulated use cases

When the use case is clinical or otherwise regulated, biocompatibility and contamination control matter as much as performance. Adoption needs workflow fit and a buyer path, and regulatory constraints usually dominate both timeline and cost.

    What to ask a supplier

    • Exact form and guaranteed spec.
    • QC frequency and what is measured.
    • Batch variance data.
    • Pricing at volume.
    • Customer references by application, not by logo.
